Meet?

May is almost over -- I trust everyone is doing well.

  1. Yeah, I was wondering about this last night too. We still don't have all the members on Blogger, and we're still missing some e-mails. I guess we could just round up those we can get a hold of and see where it goes from there? -.- I guess no one's really heard... anything.

  2. *nods*
I can completely understand some people not wanting to do anything until September. On the other hand, for anyone industry bound, a portfolio is arguably top priority and this is potentially its cornerstone.

I would assume that Dr. Ralph will provide a conduit, but not act as a babysitter. He has suggested a meeting, but it's not really up to him to round everyone up. I don't really think that would be anyone's responsibility.

Like you said, see who comes? If an earnest attempt was made to contact everyone, what more can be done? As long as emails aren't getting bounced back, it's safe to assume they're being received, and if people have other priorities right now, that's life.

Project courses like this are the biggest cases I've seen at Brock of getting out precisely what you put into it. So, in sum, I'm available.

  3. Agreed on everything, definitely.

Cory says he'll be in St. Catharines something like, this/next(?) weekend and/or the 12th, but I'm not 100% sure. He will be down though, and Brad will have to be too since they're going to the same meeting at some point. We can wait for them to confirm when they'll be down and pop out some mass e-mails to see what happens in working with that.

  4. I'll be down in St Catharine's on the weekend of the 12th and possibly the weekend after too so I can do a meeting either of those weekends.

  5. Alrighty. Yeah, that makes sense. I guess it comes down to who's available & when on those two weekends.

  7. Its sarah btw lol emberassing...I changed my passwords because I had a one hacked account ...and then FORGOT WAT I CHANGED THEM TOO! now i cant sign into anything, computers hate me.

But just to let you all know I went to INplay 2010 ..it was a conference bringing game designers/writers/creative talent, marketers/publsihers and researchers together for the sake of the industry. I learnt alot about what is making the $. I wanted to bring it up at the meeting when we are considering wat we are making as a final product.

  8. I think that trying to do something commercial would have a large impact on a lot of decisions... game genre, engine, art direction, degree of marketing/publicity and testing... let alone where the funds would go. As such, if financial gain is to be agreed upon as a primary goal, that would need to be decided before anything else. I personally don't feel as though it's realistically within the scope of the project, but I'd also hate to think I'm not open minded.

Especially because, as there are a couple people looking into UDK, that may end up being the best engine choice -- actually, a slough of new tutorials and documentation has just been released, and their license does provide room for private marketing.

Establishing an overarching vision of the final product during the first meeting would encompass these details; I anticipate spending some time discussing it.

Nevertheless, I look forward to meeting everyone properly, and finding out the extent of my involvement with this project.

Hehheh... I bounce through a few different forums when I need a break at work. I come back every now and then and keep writing, so these posts get good and lengthy. Bloody English students...

  9. I got emails back from Christian and Casey. Casey says he can only do Wednesdays and Christian said he can only do Monday and Tues but could pull off a Wednesday if needed. No word form anyone else.

  10. Hehe. Well, on Wednesdays, I'm available from 4:15 - 7pm (between work and class).

  11. So far Wednesday is looking good, several of us (Brad, Christian, Cory, Casey) can pull it off and I'll give Sarah a call later too. We haven't settled on a time yet though, so Stu, it's all yours - what time works for you during a weekday? We're looking at the 9th but if that won't work, second best is the 16th.

We're thinking about booking a library room. I'm wondering if Bill will be available for this meeting too, it'd be nice to have his input.

  12. Re: library room:

During the school year, I'd highly recommend getting keys to that... TH269K? The IASC games lab. Having a hub where the entire group can meet together to work outside class hours was a -monumental- help. The difference it made for ZZ cannot be understated.

(I'm actually surprised they don't have student card swipe-access set up the way COSC does, especially if the labs there have software you need to use.)

But right now a library room is a good idea.

I'd say just let Bill know when the meeting is, invite him to it, and he'll make it if he can / wants to. In either case it may be prudent take minutes and ship them out to people who are unable to attend.

  13. Bill is on the list of e-mails receiving the details for setting up the meeting, though he hasn't responded yet. Either way, we can forward him anything he may miss.

I agree, there should be swipe access but it is definitely in our plans to get a set of keys once the fall term starts. I'm actually not sure if anyone is in the CDH over the summer and when... Cory brought up booking a library room, but during the school year, we're getting the keys for sure.

Yeah, we might be missing like, half the group so taking minutes would be important.

  14. Looks like the 9th at 4:30 in front of the IASC hall is the game plan.

  15. is it too much trouble to move it to the 16th...i cant make it on the 9th and id appreciate...but i dont want to cause stress so let me know. THanks guys.

  16. 16th it is! Same time and place. Should we bring food or money to get something during the meeting? ~_~

  17. I look the most like Bill -- I can try to bring doughnuts. =P

Most stuff at the school is closed by 4:30, I think. At least, I've noticed Walker Caf & all the Timmy's are closed. Subcetera is still open then, though.

Are you on top of the library room, then, Michelle?

  18. Yes, I've booked a large group study room since it's meant for up to 12 students and I don't have a sure number on how many are coming (so I'd also like to ask, half a dozen or a full dozen donuts? I can just pick some up on my way there, haha). I'm also not entirely sure where it is, but I can go early and find it before we meet - it's ST238.

It's booked from 4:30 till 6:30 since we can book it for a max of two hours, but if no one shows up for it afterwards and we're still going, we can just dib it longer.
